Clay, Buckwheat, 2020

The sculpture was created during the Covid lockdown, a time when people, confined to their homes, experienced deep frustration and fear. In Russia, a peculiar outcome was the widespread obsession with buying buckwheat among the population. Suddenly, this situation underscored the significance of this grain, traditionally consumed in the country. It appeared as if there was more to it than just food; instead, it felt like a religious cult. This statue, crafted from buckwheat, mimics the image of an ancient deity, symbolizing the inevitable regression into the archaic—a desire to find some form of support amidst total uncertainty.
